Why it has this name
At Christmas 1602 Córdoba opened its playhouse here, designed by the architect Juan de Ochoa. That August, the nuns of the neighbouring convent had objected to the building because of the noise. The cathedral chapter appointed a committee of two churchmen, which sided with the city, and one of them was the poet Luis de Góngora. Years later, the Góngora family had its own box in the theatre’s stands.

If you come by car
The Jewish Quarter is a restricted pedestrian zone of narrow streets, so it is best to park first and walk in. To drop off luggage, there is a loading bay in Plaza Agrupación de Cofradías, Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 11:00.
